Pokémon Champions Battle Rules — Fixed 32 IVs & 66 Stat Points Explained
How Champions battles differ from the mainline games: fixed IVs, stat points instead of EVs, Level 50 battles, and how nature bonuses are applied. (updated: 2026-07-22)
What's different from the mainline games
If you've played the mainline Pokémon games, a few things about Champions battles will feel unfamiliar at first. The short version: there's no IV breeding, and stat allocation is more restricted than in the mainline games.
| Rule | Pokémon Champions | Mainline games |
|---|---|---|
| IVs | Fixed at 32 for every Pokémon (no breeding needed) | 0–31, varies per individual |
| Stat points (EVs) | Max 32 per stat, 66 total | Max 252 per stat, 510 total |
| Battle level | 50 | 50 (ranked battles) |
| Nature bonus | ×1.1 / ×0.9 (same as mainline) | ×1.1 / ×0.9 |
How to think about 66 stat points
With a 66-point total and a 32-point cap per stat, the standard spread is essentially 32 points into two stats, plus 2 leftover somewhere. Since you can't max out two stats the way you can in the mainline games (252/252), which two stats you invest in defines a Pokémon's build.
- Attackers: 32 in Attack (or Sp. Atk) + 32 in Speed as the default
- Bulky Pokémon: 32 in HP + 32 in Defense or Sp. Def
- For mixed or bulk-focused spreads, use the damage calculator to see where the last 2 points are best spent
Quick reference for actual stats
Because IVs are fixed, a Pokémon's actual stat only depends on its base stat, how many points you invest (0 or 32), and its nature. Our rankings and speed tier list are all calculated under these exact rules (Lv50, 32 IVs).
- Neutral speed = 32 points in Speed, no nature bonus
- Max speed = 32 points in Speed, +10% nature bonus
No breeding means the battle happens elsewhere
Because IVs are fixed, the same Pokémon with the same stat spread and nature will always have the same numbers, no matter who's using it. That means the real competition is in items, moveset, and how you play. Understanding speed tiers and how to pick held items is the fastest way to get better from here.
